MagsDirect.com is an easy enough to use online subscription service for magazines. The layout and color of the website is pleasant on the eyes (although it could use more colors for branding and marketing purposes), and its 2-column site format lends itself to easy navigation. For example, when you go to the home page, the most popular categories are located in an easy to locate upper left block, while sample issues of some of the site’s most popular magazines are laid out on the wider right column. Clicking on a category brings up the most popular magazines in that category on top, and then a list, in alphabetical order, of all the magazines under that category just below.

There’s also an easy to spot search box just below the menu, if you are searching for a specific magazine.

So how does one use the service? If you want to subscribe to a particular magazine or more than one magazine, you will have to create an account first, which is relatively easy to do. The good thing is that there’s an easy to find new account button in the login area if you don’t have an account yet. Clicking on the new account button takes you -- after confirming your password -- to a short and very neat sign-up form. You can then either 1) save your account info or 2) do that and immediately proceed to checkout if you already placed an order in your cart. Once registered, your account also gives you the option to track your orders. You can also review the magazines, ala-Amazon, to help out other customers.

The Help section is also short enough for you to find quickly the most sought after frequently asked questions like Subscription Start Times, Ordering Offline, the site’s Security features, and other Terms of Service.

Every page also shows you a supposed testimonial from past customers, although one wishes there are more than one testimonial on every page, to give one a more comprehensive assessment of the site’s service.

All in all, the owners have made it easy for the user to purchase from their service, although it could add a more personal touch to earn more easily the trust of its clients. For example, an additional page or paragraph about the company and/or its owners will surely go a long way in increasing the number of orders.
