Welcome to the third annual Margaret Reid Poetry Contest sponsored by Tom Howard Books. First prize is $1,000. A total of $3,500 in prizes will be awarded (up from $2,000 in 2005). Winning entries will be published. Click here to read about the past winners.

The Bridport Prize
The Bridport Prize International Creative Writing Competition started in 1973 as a local project with minimal entry fees and nominal prizes, to raise funds for the development of Bridport Arts Centre. in 1980 the Bridport Prize became a regional competition with a first prize in each category of £100. Although coverage was intended to be only regional, right from the start the competition attracted entries from all parts of the UK and even some from overseas.

by our judge Anna Robinson, will be placed on our website and
voted on by the public to determine the winners!

2nd Prize £500
3rd Prize £250
Maximum Length: 30 lines

Guidelines for the War Poetry Contest

What is poetry of the sacred? Poetry that expresses, directly or indirectly, a sense of the holy or that, by its mode of expression, evokes the sacred. The tone may be religious, prophetic, or contemplative.
