Each year, New Michigan Press joins forces with DIAGRAM for its yearly chapbook competition. These are the guidelines for 2007. Please note the new deadline.
The 2006 Prize
$1000, 25 copies of the finely-printed chapbook, author can purchase more at 40% discount.
We will also publish at least one other finalist manuscript, possibly more (in 2006 we published four).

We are interested in reading your original, unpublished stories! Open to all writers, all themes, all lengths, so have at it! (We don’t publish stories for children and we don’t publish works longer than 20,000 words, I’m sorry.) We do consider unpublished novel excerpts if they feel like complete stories. Multiple submissions are fine. (You can send more than one submission per competition, if you like, or submit the same story for different categories, if it qualifies).

Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition
Writers of short fiction are encouraged to enter the 2007 Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition to vie for $2,000 in cash prizes. The literary competition is open to all writers whose fiction has not appeared in a nationally distributed publication with a circulation of 5,000 or more.
The first-place winner will receive $1,000 in cash, while the second- and third-place winners will receive $500 apiece. Judges will also award honorable mentions to other entrants whose work demonstrates promise.
