To enter:
1. Essay submissions should not exceed 10,000 words in length.
2. Enclose a cover letter that contains a short bibliographical sketch and a current email address, mailing address, phone number, and the title of your essay.
3. Send an SASE for acceptance notification.

Guidelines for the FAMILY MATTERS category:

We are interested in reading your original, unpublished short stories about family! (We don’t publish stories for children, I’m sorry.) Multiple submissions are fine. (You can send more than one submission per competition, if you like, or submit the same story for different categories, if it qualifies). No simultaneous submissions, please. When we accept a story for publication, we are purchasing first-publication rights.

Guidelines for the FICTION OPEN:

We are interested in reading your original, unpublished stories! Open to all writers, all themes, all lengths, so have at it! (We don’t publish stories for children and we don’t publish works longer than 20,000 words, I’m sorry.) We do consider unpublished novel excerpts if they feel like complete stories. Multiple submissions are fine. (You can send more than one submission per competition, if you like, or submit the same story for different categories, if it qualifies).

$2,000 Awaits Winners of
Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition

Writers of short fiction are encouraged to enter the 2007 Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition to vie for $2,000 in cash prizes. The literary competition is open to all writers whose fiction has not appeared in a nationally distributed publication with a circulation of 5,000 or more.

The first-place winner will receive $1,000 in cash, while the second- and third-place winners will receive $500 apiece. Judges will also award honorable mentions to other entrants whose work demonstrates promise.
