Smashwords, Or, How to publish (and sell) your book the smart way
Submitted by Mrinal Bose on Sat, 2008-04-26 20:02.Publishing is dead; long live publishing!
Consider it: you’ve invested a lot of time – perhaps years – and labor to write a book, and have it read by some top agents and editors. The book is great, and you can write, most of them tell you, but in the end all of them reject you. Why? Some hint obliquely that the book does not satisfy today’s marketing condition. Bottom line: your book lacks the quality of a blockbuster.

Review by Steve Vernon
Beth’s life sucks. Her dad is abusive, her mom doesn’t care and her boyfriend went crazy and murdered his parents. Then he drowned himself.
Or at least everyone thinks he drowned himself.

Rushdie's New Novel
Submitted by Mrinal Bose on Sun, 2008-03-02 20:06.Is Salman Rushdie spent as a novelist? There is speculation about it, but on reading “Shalimar, the Clown”, I strongly feel he’s not. Not yet at least. The creator of “Midnight’s Children” can still deliver.
His earlier novel, “The Ground Beneath Her Feet” disappointed me. But this time I loved the prose, voice, theme and even the drama of the novel. I enjoyed every bit of Shalimar.

SAVE TASLIMA
Submitted by Mrinal Bose on Sun, 2008-02-03 22:52. “Was any poet ever house-arrested by anybody?
There might be politics about a poet,
There might be violence and fire on account of her,
But nobody ever house-arrested her, no country ..”

'The Artist's Way' -- Rediscovering the Artist in You
Submitted by noid on Tue, 2007-12-25 21:03.I'm currently reading Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity [10th Anniversary Edition] (I found a copy at the Shopwise Cubao branch of Book Sale for just seventy pesos!) The interesting thing was that it was indeed a case of synchronicity -- a theme which Cameron goes back to time and again in the book -- when I went to Cubao with my girlfriend, Marie. I felt lazy to go initially, but she shoved me inside the cab anyway. And boy, I'm glad she did. Going to Cubao, and then finding the book was indeed synchronous, meant to be.

Scars: Conflict’s Painful Legacy
Submitted by kristinesendy on Wed, 2007-11-14 03:45.I need healing.
I realized the scars of my most recent wounds and even the not-so-recent ones are still sensitive to touch and I am still hurting.
What have I done wrong? I had moved on. Or at least, I believed then that I did. I took the blows life gave me as courageously as I could. I almost gave up the big fight, but somehow along the way, I managed to outdo my nemesis, knocking him down with all my might. Or so I thought.....
