Runners-up prizes: £750, £500 and £250

Closing date: midday, Friday May 4th 2007

The Editors of the TLS will prepare a shortlist of the best poems entered; these will be printed in the TLS of June 8th. Readers may then vote for the poem of their choice. The winners of the poll will be announced in the TLS of July 13th 2007. Poems may be in any style, on any subject, and must be printed on one side of A4 paper. The competition is open to all.

Entry Fee: £5 for first poem; £3 for each additional poem, to a maximum of five per entrant.

. Terms and conditions:

1. Poems must be the original unpublished work of the entrant, in English. Entrants are advised to keep copies, as poems will not be returned and there will be no acknowledgement of receipt.
2. Each entry must be printed clearly on one sheet of A4 paper. Entrant’s name must not appear anywhere on the poem. Name, address and title(s) of the poems submitted should be printed clearly on the entry form.
3. Entries must be received no later than midday, May 4th 2007.
4. Competitors may enter a maximum of five poems. Entry fee for the first poem is £5.00; for each additional poem £3.00. Cheques/postal orders (sterling only) to be made payable to: The Times Literary Supplement Ltd. and must be enclosed with an entry form or photocopy of the entry form OR credit card details filled in on the entry form.
5. The initial judging of the competition is by the Editors of the TLS; at this stage, the judges’ decision is final. A shortlist of between ten and twenty poems will appear in the TLS of June 8th 2007 and will be posted on the TLS website on the same date. Readers who attach their own name may then cast one vote, either by post or by e-mail, for the poem they wish to win the competition. The result of this poll, the titles of the four prize-winning poems and the names of their authors will be published and broadcast on July 13th 2007. Prize-winners will be advised before that date. Entrants and others wishing to be informed of the results should enclose a stamped addressed envelope marked WINNERS.
6. Copyright remains with the author, but entrants are deemed to have assigned first publication rights to the TLS for the duration of the competition.
7. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of any stage of the judging process.
8. The submission of any entry will be deemed to assume the unqualified acceptance of the conditions of entry by the competitor.
