MANILA, September 1, 2008 - Award-winning authors and other luminaries in the Philippine literary and art circles served as judges for the 58th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, the Carlos Palanca Foundation announced today.

The judges, whose expertise are well known in literature, academe, television and performing arts, screened 927 entries for the award’s various categories this year.

The awarding ceremonies for the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards were held on September 1 at The Peninsula Manila.

Established in 1950 to honor Don Carlos Palanca Sr., the awards aims to help develop Philippine literature for writers to craft their most outstanding literary work; to be a treasury of the Philippines’ literary gems from our gifted writers; and to assist in its dissemination to the public, especially the students.
