What I learned

I went to my first writers conference two weeks ago.  It was a small conference of only 100 people.  Despite its small size, it packed a whollop.  I learned a lot.  I also found out that I have learned a lot myself from reading books/magazines on the craft of writing. Like all of us, I still have a long way to go.

What was really amazing was to find so many professional writers who write fulltime for their careers.  They weren't just a few minutes here, a few minutes there writers, but one of sit down at the computer and type all day type of writer.  It was very encouraging, to say the least.

Since the conference I have been writing every day on some type of story or another.  I haven't written yet today.  I fell last night playing a game at Family Night at church.  I hurt my wrist.  It is hard to type.  I will be writing after I finish this blog, though.  I want to get more into my writing.  Can't reach my goal of supporting myself and my son with my writing if I don't write.

I will talk more about what I learned at the conference once my splint is off my wrist.  Right now, it is a little hard and painful.

take care,

writers' conferences

Hello,

Yes, writers' conferences are great. They're so motivating!

I'm sorry about your wrist. That's not a "good thing" for a writer.

Hurt Wrist and Writing

countrymom7:

Wow - isn't that how life is at times? You get a brand new toy and Wham! Out of commission for a few days.

Really, I hope your wrist heals soon and, on the positive side, it sounds like the conference was a real inspiration to you. Congratulations - I'm sure the inspiration will outlast the injury,

Writer's Conference

Sorry to hear about your wrist! But, I think you found some very important inspiration from your writer's conference.

Perhaps you just needed to see that writing full-time is POSSIBLE!!!!

Hang in there!

conferences and injuries

I haven't been to a conference in ages and there's an author & book show coming up next week. I have my finger's crossed that I can, at least, get to that. I get so much from listening to other writers - published or not, full-time or not - that I come away from conferences with pages of fresh ideas.

And everytime I hurt my hand or wrist, my immediate thought is, "I better be able to type this afternoon..."

Hope your injury heals quicker than expected. Maybe there's an article in this??
